DAY 2: FAYEZ SAROFIM & CO. ATP 250 U.S. MEN'S CLAY COURT CHAMPIONSHIP

Welcome to day two of the Fayez Sarofim & Co. ATP 250 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship  tournament where the next round of professional men's tennis is taking place at the River Oaks Country Club, located in Houston Texas. The first match of the day of ten, a double kicks off with Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac vs. Christian Harrison and Evan King. With all four players hailing from the U.S.A. this match was a highly dynamic match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

 

The service point stats for Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac stood at 36/59 (61%), return points won, 20/49 (41%), and the total points won totaled 56/108 (52%). Even though Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac were the winners of this match, Christian Harrison and Evan King played a very good game as well as their service points won stats stood at 29/49 (59%). Just two percentage points under Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac. Christian Harrison and Evan King return points were 23/59 (48%) and the sum of their total points won stood at 52/108 (48%). Again, this was a very good double match-up.

 

The second match-up of the day was a singles match that consisted of Yannick Hanfmann  facing off against Adrian Mannarino. This was another tight match today that resulted in Adrian Mannarino defeating Yannik Hanfmann. From the perspective of many spectators, this match was considered to be a “balanced” match in the fact that both players always seemed to be either a few points ahead of the other or a few points behind the other. Looking at the net points won, Germany's Yannick Hanfmann  led over France's Adrian Mannarino with 7/11 (64%). Adrian Mannarino stood at 5/9 (56%).

 

In the variable of winners; Yannick Hanfmann  obtained a score of 28 to Adrian Mannarino’s 18. When it came to unforced errors Yannick Hanfmann  had 41 while Adrian Mannarino had 17. In terms of service points won, this is where Adrian Mannarino excelled with 49/57 (42%) to Yannick Hanfmann  33/57 (58%). Return points earned by Adrian Mannarino were 24/57 (42%) to Yannick Hanfmann  33/82 (40%). Lastly, when it came to the sum total points won it would be Adrian Mannarino (match winner) 73/139 (53%) to Yannick Hanfmann  66/139 (47%).

 

In the third match of the day which consisted of Daniel Galan from Colombia Galan against American Mackenzie McDonald it would be Mackenzie McDonald who would reign supreme over Daniel Galan. In the first two categories consisting of net points won and winners, both players stood at a tie with Mackenzie McDonald 4/6 (67%) and Daniel Galan 6/9 (67%) and 29 respectively. The break in the tie wouldn’t come in until you look at the number of unforced errors in which Daniel Galan would obtain 42 to Mackenzie McDonald29.

 

Service points won for Daneil Galan would be 59/90 (66%) and for Mackenzie McDonald 63/84 (75%). Mackenzie McDonald took the lead when it came to return points won 31/90 (34%) to Daniel Galan's 21/84 (25%). Total points won between both players stood at Daniel Galan 80/174 (56%) to Mackenzie McDonald 94/174 (54%). Another exceptionally tight game played today consisted of Michael Mmoh vs Adam Walton. These two exceptionally talented players registered extremely close statistically.

 

For this match the net points won between michael Mmoh and Adam Walton stood at 2/5 (40%) and 4/8 (50%) respectively. Adam Walton was up one point in the winners category for a total of 18 to michael Mmoh’s 17. Michael Mmoh had two more unforced errors (29) to Adam Walton 27. There was a 10-point difference between both players in the next following sections. For the service points won category with michael Mmoh earning 29/61 (48%) to Adam Walton 41/71 (58%). In regards to the return points won variable, it would be Adam Walton who would take the lead 32/61 (52%) to michael Mmoh’s 30/71 (42%). Lastly, the total points won is were Adam Walton led with 73/132v (55%) to michael Mmoh’s 59/132 (45%).

 

The next match for the day featured American Colton Smith vs. Australian  James Duckworth. This match was perceived as fair, but good by the spectators in attendance. In net points won, it would be Colton Smith that would come on top in this match with 2/3 (67%) to James Duckworth 5/10 (50%). In the winners category Colton Smith also came out on top scoring 17 to James Duckworth 13. Looking at unforced errors James Duckworth Would have more than Colton Smith by 15 by having 27 to Colton Smith’s 12. Colton Smith had 33/44 (75%) to James Duckworth 30/58 (52%). In the return points won variable, it would be Colton Smith that would come out on top again with 28/58 (48%) to James Duckworth 11/44 (25%). For the total points won for this match, and winner colon smith earned 61/102 (60%) to James Duckworth 41/102 (40%).

 

In the sixth match of the evening and what some are calling it close to being a landslide victory, this match was considered to be one of the best matches played by Ethan Quinn during his professional career against Jordan Thompson. Ethan Quinn led in all categories tonight in his stunning victory. In the net points won category Ethan Quinn stood ¾ (75%) with 15 winners and 25 unforced errors. His opponent Jordan Thompson scored 2/5 (40%) in the net points won category, with 6 winners, and 16 unforced errors.

 

When it came to service points Ethan Quinn scored 62/96 (64%) to Jordan Thompson’s 54/95 (57%). On the return points won front, it would be Ethan Quinn who once again dominated with 41/95 (43%) to Jordan Thompson’s 35/96 (36%). For the sum total points won between the two players, Ethan Quinn stood at 102/191 (53%) to Jordan Thompson’s score of 89/191 (47%). For the second double for the day, it would be Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen vs. Matthew Christopher Romios and Adam Walton. If there was a word that could be used to describe this match it would be even judging by both the game and its momentum as well as the scores and statistics.

Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen took the lead in this variable by scoring 49/68 (72%) when it came to service points won; followed by 28/78 (36%) in terms of return points won. Tonight's total for Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen came out to be 77/146 (53%) for the sum total points won. Matthew Christopher Romios and Adam Walton who were deemed the winners of this match scored 50/78 (64%) when it came to service points won, with 19/68 (28%) in return points won. Matthew Christopher Romios and Adam Walton rounded out the total points won variable by obtaining 69/146 (47%).

 

Without a shadow of a doubt, the best and most exciting match of the night goes to Rinky Hijikata vs. Christopher Eubanks. Let us be the first to tell you that Christopher Eubanks was declared the winner of the match which went into overtime; but Rinky Hijikata without exception played a very good game tonight against Christopher Eubanks. The most notable difference between the two players is the height difference with Rinky Hijikata standing at 5'10 and Christopher Eubanks standing tall at 6’7, a 9 inch difference height wise, a lot of credit has been given to Rinky Hijikata. Because of Christopher Eubanks combined height, speed, power, ability to quickly cover ground, and aggressiveness on the court, it was simply amazing to see how Rinky Hijikata was able to keep up and demonstrate that he was a formidable opponent to Christopher Eubanks.

 

Rinky Hijikata had ½ (50%) met points won, with 2 winners, and 1 unforced error, when compared to Christophers Eubanks 0/1 (0%) net points won, 4 winners, and 3 unforced errors. In terms of service points won, Rinky Hijikata had 47/85 (55%) to Christopher Eubank's 55/80 (69%). Looking at the return points won for both players Rinky Hijikata obtained 255/80 (31%) to Christopher Eubank’s 38/85 (45%). The total points won for Rinky Hijikata stood at 72/165 (44%) to winner Christopher Eubank’s 93/165 (56%).

 

A double that included n. Sriram Balaji and Miguel Reyes-Varela vs. Federico Agustin Gomez and Santiago Gonzalez. Looking at n. Sriram Balaji and Miguel Reyes-Varela in terms of service points won stood at 41/60 (68%), with 10/58 (17%) in return points won and 51/118 (43%) when it comes to total points won. The winners of this match, Federico Agustin Gomez and Santiago Gonzalez obtained 48/58(83%) with 19/60 (32%) return points won, and a sum total points won standing at 67/118 (57%).

 

The final match of the night was played between Kei Nishikori vs Mitchell Krueger. The net points won between the two were Kei Nishikori scoring 1/3 (33%) when it comes to net points won, 0 winners, and 4 unforced errors. Mitchell Kruger had 2/2 (100%) net points earned 3 winners, and 0 unforced errors. Kei Nishikori had 39/57 (68%) service points won with 21/48 (44%) return points won and 60/105 (57%) total points won. Mitchell Kruger had 27/48 (56%) service points won, with 18/57 (32%) return points won, and 45/105 (43%) total points won. The winner of this match was determined to be Kei Nishikori.
