In a turn of events, it was recently reported that America has entered talks with Hamas, a pro-Palestinian military organization that they have deemed to be “Terrorist”. Why the official narrative of America is that they do not negotiate with Terrorists – ironically it looks as if they will be conducting talks much like they have in the past; just as they have done with the unelected, therefore illegitimate incumbent Ahmed al-Sharaa. Ahmed al-Sharaa who “stage name” for lack of better terms is “Abu Mohammad al-Julani” was designated by America as a Terrorist and had a 10-million-dollar bounty on his head which was recently removed by America once they secured him as head of state in Syria in January this year (2025).
So, America does negotiate with Terrorists, just as long as they can get something out of it. Fair is fair right? But in the case of Hamas, it appears that America is looking to overlook its pass narrative of not negotiating with Terrorist to now negotiating with Hamas. When it comes to Hamas, their official position [paraphrasing] is that no foreign entity should have the right to rule over the people of Palestine; Palestine should be recognized as a state by the international community; Israel should remove themselves from Palestinian land amongst other things that most people can agree with, if they were empathic enough to understand.
But why is America seeking to hold diplomatic talks with Hamas now given its status in the eye's of America and the Collective West? Well, it's currently speculated that the Trump Administration is looking to identify actors that wish to have peace and stability in the region, and since Israel doesn't seem to be championing the peaceful resolve of the conflict in West Asia and its genocidal actions against the people of Palestine – then the next logical step is to hold peace talks with Hamas. According to Gershon Baskin, who is an Israeli Journalist, and social and political activist:
“The US has almost no leverage on Hamas and US threats against Hamas are almost useless [and] The US is not likely to bomb Gaza or to have US boots on the ground.”
He also went on a state the following:
“There is no deal without ending the war and without Israel exiting Gaza. There is no end to the war without all of the hostages being freed. There is no real end to the war if Hamas – militarily or politically – continues to control Gaza.”
“I understand that we are all still in a state of deep trauma,” Baskin said of his fellow Israelis. “I understand that the majority of Israelis today reject the idea of a Palestinian state. But the reality of more than 7 million Israeli Jews and more than 7 million Palestinian Arabs living on the land between the (Jordan) River and the (Mediterranean) Sea is much stronger and compelling than the current mood of Israeli public opinion.”
But the truth that everyone knows the world over is that the Israeli government has no plans to leave any parts of Palestine, especially when it comes to Gaza and the west bank. Compounding this issue is the fact that Israel has violated the ceasefire truce as well as failing to return all of the Palestinian hostages/prisoners under their current watch. Even more than that, it is agreed by many that America has no kind of leverage over Hamas, and this is because they have failed over many decades to really build any kind of significant diplomatic relations with the Hamas organization.
It is true that American President Trump can turn all that around. Some people and geopolitical pundits are optimistic, but far more are even more skeptical than they were 2 years ago. This is primarily due to America's inability to tell the Israeli lobby in America “no” to just about anything. With Israel newly appointed military chief making the statement that Israel should prepare itself for a prolong multi-front war of attrition – should be the single if there ever was one that the American should not only be prepared to tell Israel “No”; but to strategically place themselves in the position to build and drive the diplomatic process between themselves and Hamas.
It's been predicted that if America continues to fail to control Israel – Israel will not only continue to play a vital role in the decline of America in West Asia, but they will inevitably cause the collapse of American influence in the arena of geopolitics.
