U.S. MILITARY VETERANS LIVING IN CRISIS AT CLOUD BREAK COMMUNITIES HOUSTON, TEXAS

[HOUSTON TEXAS CLOUD BREAK COMMUNITIES VETERANS] While homelessness amongst American Military Veterans has significantly dropped since 2010, but despite this, there seems to be another issue surrounding the general welfare of veterans and that dilapidated housing and deplorable living conditions. Speaking with several veterans, we had the opportunity to meet one who was willing to not only tell us about his living situation but allow us to witness the unsavory living conditions that he has been subjected to living in as a resident within Houston, Texas.
Texas company Cloud Break Communities, owns and operates a complex renovated that was once a hotel which is now going by the name of Midtown Terrace Suites and is located at 4640 Main St, Houston, TX 77002. The Military Veteran that we were able to speak to who has a 100% disability rating from the Veterans Affairs (VA) and has been clinically diagnosed with blindness informed us that he is having lived in subpar conditions with rats and other rodents in his studio apartment. He also informed us that he is currently paying close to $900 per month and has been recently notified that the price of the rent will be increasing despite taking advantage of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other forms of low-income housing tax credits. During the tour of his apartment, he informed us that he's not the only Veteran in his complex that is facing the problems shown in the video.
When we attempted to contact the Owner/Operations Manager/Property Manager who we were told goes by the name of “Mr. Tim”, we were told that he was unavailable to provide a statement. By current estimate, roughly 1.2 to 1.5 million Veterans live below the federal poverty line and in Houston, Texas, approximately 19,110 Veterans are living below the federal poverty line. While the city of Houston addressing the grievances of Houston renters at a townhall meeting earlier this year which we published in an article entitled: “COUNCILWOMEN TIFFANY THOMAS & MARTHA CASTEX-TATUM TAKE LEAD ON RENTERS GRIEVANCES & HOUSTON SLUMLORDS”, it appears that the city of Houston still has some ways to go to fix the issue of slumlords that continues to plague so many Houston residents.
