[Christian Menefee Amanda Edwards 18th Congressional District] With the polls closing yesterday for the Texas 18th Congressional District, it resulted in two Candidates advancing to the run-offs. Those two Candidates are Christian Menefee (D) and Amanda Edwards (D). Christian Menefee who ranked number one racked in 29% of total voters (21,979), while his counterpart Amanda Edwards pulled in a somewhat close 26% of voters (19,440). 37-year-old Attorney Christian Menefee appears to be courageous in his efforts to revitalize the 18th Congressional District of Houston. However, when it comes to addressing geopolitical events on the world stage, it also appears that experience and skill is something that he would be lacking.
His political opponent Attorney Amanda Edwards, who is 44 years of age has somewhat of a long history of running for various political seats, in 2015 she was elected for “At Large Position 4” on the Houston City Council. While on the Houston City Council she spearheaded the construction of the “Ion”. For many Houston residents, this was seen as a good thing – if one was the owner of a multi-million-dollar corporation. But for the average Houstonian, it appears as they’ve gained nothing from the construction or the daily operation of the Ion. It should be noted that Amanda Edwards falls short when it comes to addressing geopolitical events. This shortcoming will morph from a frustrating inconvenience to a self-infected disaster if placed in a republican dominated and Israeli controlled house.
Within the 18th Congressional District, the biggest employment opportunities were construction, retail, and health care. The average income for Houston residents that reside in the 28th Congressional District stands at $45,146 for men and $35,789 for women. The poverty rate in the 18th Congressional District stands at 21.1%, which is double the national average which stands at 11.1%. The question is who will either Candidate address the social issues of chronic poverty, homelessness and the stagnant wage growth within the 18th District? In this regard we find that neither Candidate has any viable solutions that will affect any real change in the 18th Congressional District.
In terms of campaign funds, Christian Menefee pulled in $1,539,610.28 and spent $1.1 million so far in his campaign, while Amanda Edwards in contrast, pulled in $1,266,234.32 and spent $936,000 for her campaign. The question is who were the Candidate’s biggest donors? According to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) the organizations that donated to Christian Menefee were as follows:
HOUSTON PILOTS PAC
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE PAC
MEDICARE FOR ALL
WAY TO LEAD PAC
OUR FIGHT OUR FUTURE
INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS PAC
ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE PAC
CONGRESSIONAL PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS PAC
ERICA LEE CARTER FOR TEXAS
BLACK WOMEN FOR GREATER HOUSTON PAC
LEADERS WE DESERVE
The organizations that donated to Amanda Edwards were as follows:
PRICE WAFER HOUSE COOPERS PAC
HIGHER HEIGHTS FOR AMERICA PAC
ALSO PAC
ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY PAC INC
WILL OF THE PEOPLE
Christian Menefee may be young and inexperienced politically, but he appears ready and eager to tackle politics on the local, state, and federal level and according to the FEC, he appears to have a stronger donor support base. Amanda Edwards may be older and seasoned, but her donor support base lacks the strength to compete with Christian Menefee. Moreover, according to some voters she doesn’t appear authentic enough to pull in the necessary votes amongst Houstonians to secure this election cycle.
OUR PREDICTION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS
The winner of this emergency election cycle will be Christian Menefee. The reality is, with only a year in office, will Christian Menefee have enough time to demonstrate to voters that he is indeed capable of being re-elected for the next term? Only time will tell as it always does.
