PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP ADDRESS AT THE SHIELD OF AMERICAS FORUM | VIDEO COURTESY OF THE WHITE HOUSE

[Shield of Americas Donald Trump] Despite the Trump Administration waging a war in West Asia, a war with China, and a global trade war, the Trump Administration also found the time to find a way to wage war against the “narco-cartels” in South America. President Donald Trump creating what he has coined the “Shields of America", which is a Foreign Policy Initiative that focuses on not just anti-drug trafficking from the various cartels operating within South American countries, but acts as a “counter-cartel coalition” in conjunction with being focused on retarding Chinese influence in South America.

The Shield of Americas, which was held in Doral, Florida consisted of an estimated 12-17 countries and their heads of state from South American such El Salvador, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago. South American countries Mexico who was deemed the “epicenter of violence", Brazil, Columbia, and Cuba were either uninvited or were absent. Some of the topics that were touched on besides the trafficking of narcotics and countering the influence of China were immigration and gang violence.

What was known as the "Monroe Doctrine” named after the American president James Monroe appears to have been replaced by what many geopolitical analysts are calling the “Donroe Doctrine” which expands the Monroe Doctrine by including “likeminded allies” which agree to pursue interests that are deemed vital to the advancement of the United States. The Donroe Doctrine also seeks to actively block all interest and investments of Iran and Russia in South America. It should be noted that the Shield of Americas has been perceived as more as a "hemispheric security network” than it is a permanent diplomatic exchange bloc.
