[GERMANY GEN Z REGELT PROTEST] Yesterday, The European phenomenon of protesting against the rising cost of living spearheaded by Generation Z students appears to be spreading to Germany as 120,000 youth erupted in a violent clash with police which led to several police officers being injured. The German youth organization and movement called “GenZ regelt”, which translates to “Gen Z has got this!” held several demonstrations in various parts of Germany including Hamburg, Cologne, and Berlin, that were inspired by other youth protests in Italy, India, and France has officially rocked the German government. The reason cited by many protestors for participating in the protest is because they feel as if the older generation has not only failed to hear their concerns but have ignored them completely.

Like in the student and youth-led protests in France, India, and Italy, a massive number of police were deployed in riot gear and utilized water cannon and tear gas to control the advancement and destructive actions of the protestors. Countering the presence and actions of the German police, protestors escalated their level of violence and began throwing large rocks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks. The financial district of Frankfurt was badly hit as protestors began destroying buildings and other types of infrastructure. The protest by GenZ regelt spawned another unknown organization of protestors to begin demonstrating in Berlin. During that demonstration police reported that they were assaulted by the protestors throwing eggs and glass bottles.

However, the premise of the protesters was not only limited to addressing the rapid cost of living in which wages have failed to keep up, but these protests also echoed the political climate amongst many German citizens. Protestors holding up signs stating “Merz must go” along with other political slogans were waved in the face of riot police. Friedrich Merz is the current Chancellor of Germany who took office in May of last year and holds a democratic position politically.  While the fear of youth protest spreading throughout Europe has come true for the political elite, the acquisition of foreign actors has been pushed to the forefront as to why the protests are spreading in the manner that they are.

OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS

The youth should continue protesting the rising cost of living and the stealing of labor under the guise of inflation for as long as they can. The reason why we are taking this position is because many people that fall into the older generation lack the courage to do so despite it being in their best interest to do so.
