COUNCIL MEMBER THOMAS PARTNERS WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE THANKSGIVING TURKEYS TO FAMILIES IN NEED
HOUSTON, TX – Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, District F is joining forces with Alief ISD and Houston ISD to sponsor turkey drives for students and families impacted by interruptions in SNAP benefits and facing food insecurity this Thanksgiving.
Council Member Thomas will contribute 300 turkeys this Thanksgiving, with 150 turkeys at each event:
-Alief ISD: Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at LeRoy Crump Stadium,
12321 High Star Dr, Houston, TX 77072
-Houston ISD: Friday, November 21 at 3:30 p.m. at Emerson Elementary
School, 9533 Skyline Dr., Houston, TX 77063
The additional 300 turkeys will supplement the 150 supplied by Alief ISD and
Houston ISD.
In light of the recent cutbacks to SNAP benefits caused by the federal government shutdown, many families in Houston are facing extreme challenges putting food on the table this Thanksgiving,” said Council Member Thomas. “That's why I'm proud to sponsor additional turkeys for this year’s community turkey drive to make sure we can feed as many families as possible. By partnering with our public schools and educators, we can ensure more families have access to a warm holiday meal. No one in our city deserves to go hungry, especially during a season meant for gratitude and togetherness.
Volunteers are needed to assist with distribution. Please register to volunteer here.
