[Houston Dynamo Austin] Saturday’s game between the Houston Dynamo and Texas rival Austin was a game that depending on your team loyalty left fans divided. Despite that, what was not divided was the final score between the two teams which resulted in a draw of 2-2. Goals were scored by Llie Sánchez and Guilherme Biro (Austin) and Jack McGlynn (Houston Dynamo). While both teams played a good game, when you take a look at the match statistics, it's easy to see that the Houston Dynamo defeated Austin. Going by the numbers, the Houston Dynamo took a total of 18 shots with 6 shots landing on target. This is an indication that the Dynamo’s seemed to have “upped” their attack game on the pitch.

 

In contrast, Austin took a total of 12 shots with 4 of those shots landing on target. Trailing behind the Dynamo when it came to ball possession, Austin possessed the ball 47% of the time while the Dynamo possessed the ball at a slightly higher rate of 53% of the time. Both teams fared well when it came to passes and pass accuracy with the Houston Dynamo leading Austin with 486 total passes, with 442 accurate passes which led them to a pass accuracy rate of 90%. Austin had 442 total passes,  and 384 accurate passes, leaving them with a pass accuracy rate of 86%. While not terrible, many fans of Austin believe they could have done better.

 

Austin also led when it came to fouls as they racked up 12 fouls to the Houston Dynamo’s 11. When it came to the issuance of yellow cards the Dynamo’s were issued 1 and Austin was issued 3. No red cards were issued throughout the match. Both teams faired equal when it came to clearances with 20 clearances apiece. Austin was called for being offsides 2 and was able to take 5 corners during the match. The Houston Dynamo had 0 calls for being offsides and were able to take 4 corners throughout the match. The Dynamo’s also led when it came to blocking shots with 5 shots blocked compared to Austin 4 blocked shots.

 

The Dynamo also had 5 interceptions while Austin fell behind with 4 interceptions. When it came to keeper saves Austin came out on top with 4, to the Dynamo’s 2. Austin missed 2 big chances, and the Dynamo’s missed 1. The next Houston Dynamo match is scheduled for August 17th at BC Place, Canada. If you’re hedging a bet on which team will win this upcoming match, the current win probability stands at the Vancouver whitecaps having 57% chance of winning and the Houston Dynamo having a 19% chance of winning with both teams standing at a 24% chance of a draw.
