[Houston DUI road rage] Today on the lower southwest side of Houston near Missouri City, near the corner of Fondren and Airport at roughly 6:50pm, there was a very serious car collision in which it appeared that both cars struck each other head on. While one individual appeared to be disheveled with a possible concussion, the other individual that was involved in the car collision was observed by onlookers being loaded into an ambulance. Currently, it’s unknown if the other individual involved in this car collision who was seen being transported by Houston EMS is dead or alive.
Houston, Texas is known for rampant cases in which reckless driving, aggressive driving, road rage, and drunk driving seem to be an everyday occurrence despite the Houston police department's aggressive anti-drinking and driving stance. While Houston Texas is said to lead the state of Texas in the number of DUI crimes averaging an estimated 6 cases per day. It was also released that at least 30% of car collisions in the City of Houston involve drug and/or alcohol. In 2024, Harris County reported that 579 people who resided in Harris County died due to car collisions which accounts for an estimated 15% of fatalities within the state of Texas.
Speculating, another variable that could be related to this car collision could be the ongoing epidemic of road rage which runs rampant throughout Texas. Just last year, according to Evans Deshazo Reilley Law Firm which specializes in personal injury and vehicle accidents it was estimated that 96% of Texas drivers admitted to driving aggressively or experiencing road rage at some point. The law firm also stated on their website that in the year 2024:
“Texas has averaged over 100 road rage shootings per year.”
“In the Houston area alone, more than 200 road rage shootings occurred between 2014 and 2023.”
“Statewide, at least 146 people were killed and over 430 were injured in road rage shootings during that period.”
Since the driving statistics of 2025 aren't currently available, many find it safe to assume and/or predict that these statistics could be higher once the driving statistics of 2025 becomes available. It should be noted that Texas ranks the second worst state for drivers nationally.
