INDIA’S QUEEN OF R&B MUSIC: MARY ANN ALEXANDER | SONG "BETTER THAN THIS"

[INDIA KERALA BENGALURU MARY ANN ALEXANDER R&B MUSIC] There was a time when Black Americans ruled the musical genre of R&B (Rhythm and Blues), but since 2025 times have been changing in the favor of the most unlikely of places and that place is India. While little is known in America about the history of Indian music especially when it pertains to R&B, there is one Indian artist that appears to be bridging that gap rather quickly. Her name is Mary Ann Alexander. The exceptionally beautiful and ultra talented, Mary Ann Alexander was born in 2008 in Kerala, India and is living and making music in Bengaluru, India. Growing up in a household where creativity and music were at the forefront of everyday life, Mary Ann Alexander was able to attend many studio sessions in which she gained the opportunity to watch her father record music professionally.

Mary Ann Alexander began her career in music at the tender age of 7 and has been going on strong nonstop ever since. What we like most about her is her ability to bring us back to a time where Black American R&B heavily injected love and sensuality into their music instead of the oversaturated drugged out vocals being slung out over trap house beats that it has become today. Mary Ann Alexander, breathing fresh air into both Indian and American R&B is seen by many of her peers and listeners as more of an escape route back to a time when people had the strength to openly be openly vulnerable and unafraid.

While taking the time out to deeply listen to several of her songs from the last year or two, we really enjoyed her song “Better than this” which featured to us a late 90’s early 2000’s playful feel. This was followed by her song entitled “Student of Love” which carried both a sexy and sultry sound that was captivating to our ears. One of her biggest songs entitled “Love or A Lesson” featured what we are describing as a “breathy” harmonic melody. Another great track she created called “Good Girl” featured great vocals paired with a Hypnotic vibe. Then there was the song called “The Lovely Dovey Song” which really took the cake because it served as a reminder of our days in junior high and high school, an era where no R&B song could do no wrong.

All of her work features great sound engineering as well as the ability to take you back to a time when R&B was just that; “Great R&B”. we urge you to not only give her a listen but follow her on Instagram under the handle: @mary.ann.alexander.
