[Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traore France] With France not only being challenged but kicked out of the Sahel region of Africa which consist of Niger, Burkina Faso, and Chad; Burkina Faso is leading the charge when it comes to further eroding French influence in the region by completely breaking it’s diplomatic relationship with France, it former colonial ruler. Led by military Caption Ibrahim Traore, his administration released the following statement to the Press:
“The government of Burkina Faso hereby informs the national and international community that it has decided to sever diplomatic relations with France with effect from today, June 26, 2026.”
The reason why Captain Ibrahim Traore and his administration decided to take their recent actions against France was because they claim France has been acting against the interests of the people of Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso communications minister state that “The essential conditions for promoting relations based on mutual respect, reciprocal trust, respect for the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and national sovereignty are not in place.”
Many citizens within the international community and Burkina Faso are supporting Captain Ibrahim Traore and his administration. Ibrahim Traore also claimed that France has been providing support for “subversive networks and terrorists”. Mainstream news outlets have reported that the Ibrahim Traore Administration has engaged in extrajudicial killings which could be considered war crimes if true as pointed out by international organization Human Rights Watch. It should be noted that there has been evidence presented to substantiate these claims. While it is true that Burkina Faso seems to be perpetually battling violent extremism from western designated terrorist organizations ISIS and al-Qaida, by international consensus the socio-economic problems organizations like create can and should be dealt with on a nation-by-nation basis.
OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS
As with any sovereign nation, there will always be crime, corruption, and “Hardliners” that can be considered "Extremist". With Burkina Faso taking control of its sovereignty, it is only fitting that they militarily act on terrorist and extremism as they deem fit. The decline of French influence or the outright breaking of diplomatic relations with France marks yet another turning point that reflects how serious Burkina Faso is about taking control of its own destiny as a sovereign nation. From the perspective of many citizens of Burkina Faso, it’s about time the breaking of diplomatic relations with France occurred because Burkina Faso has the ability to serve as both a shining and leading example of what self-sufficiency and self-determination can do to bolster a nation's sovereignty on the international stage.
