[Israel strikes Syria] Israel carried out an aerial assault on the Syrian military tanks in southern Syria in what Israel calls “in defense of the Druze” in Sweida province located in southern Syria. In what is known as proxy war between the Druze militia who is supported by Israel and the Bedouin tribe who is supported by the Syrian government. This latest proxy violence has resulted in the estimated killing of 30 to 64 people and roughly 100 people severely wounded. The Syrian government decided to deploy its troops in order to pacify the Druze uprising.

Both the Druze militia and the Bedouin tribe have been going back and forth in terms of assaulting and kidnapping victims from both sides. While some say that the back and forth violence started when the Bedouin tribe constructed check points and robbed a Druze man of his of his good, goods that were likely seized on religious grounds; others are claiming that the back and forth violence between the two entities began as nothing more than a petty conflict between the two factions that grew out of hand due to escalate tensions.

OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS

Despite the overthrowing of Bashar Assad which led to the Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa taking control of Syria, Syria is still a sovereign country and should be respected as such. With that said, whether the Druze serve in the Israeli defense force or not, if they are living in Syria then they should abide by the laws of Syria or they should be subjected to face deportation to Israel. The reason why we are taking this position is because by the Druze residing in Syria, it gives Israel an excuse to trample on the national sovereignty of Syria thus Israel alone serves as the fuel that ensues conflict in southern Syria. The Israeli trampling on the severity of Syria has been seen as Israel executed hundreds of airstrikes and countless land incursions along and within the Syrian border.

With the Druze residing in the annexed area of Syria known as the Golan Heights, it only further exacerbates the situation and inflames Syrians who live around the Druze and the Goland heights. It should be noted that the Druze also reside in the Jaramana, Ashrafiyat, and pockets of Damascus. Another thing that the Syrian government, whether anyone believes that the Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa should be in power or not is the fact that the Druze should not be allowed to form or have their own militias within Syria as it is a direct conflict of interest with the Syrian government.

With over 1 million Druze living in the region, they are still a very small minority within the whole of Syria. The Syrian government should not only take a stand against Israel and their backing of such a minority within the borders of Syria, but the Syrian government should crack down exceptionally hard on the militias of the Druze and any other militia that operates within Syria without the permission of the Syrian government. If the Syrian government continues to fail to not only address but resolve this issue; then the Syrian government should be solely held responsible for the chaos that occurs within its borders. If that is so, then it should constitute the removal of not only the Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa but mark the beginning of Syrian government reform.
