There are Mayors and there is Mayor Turner of Houston Texas. At an event held at City Hall, named the “Fireside Chat Town Hall Meeting” was where Mayor Turner and the Chief of Houston Police got together with the teenagers of the community to address the ongoing endemic of gun violence. It is that same endemic of gun violence that has not only adversely affected these teens in their immediate communities but has adversely affected teenagers across this country.
Throughout the entirety of the Fireside Chat, the teens were allowed to ask the mayor and the Chief of Police specific questions regarding gun violence and what solutions could the teens use in order to avoid and or curb the gun violence in their communities. For some of the teens and general public that were in attendance it was an emotional time for them primarily because they themselves have either been exposed to or were victims of and or had someone close to them become victims to the endemic of gun violence.
I used the term endemic because it denotes the fact that by the sheer incidences of gun violence over the decades within this nation, it is of no surprise of the outcomes that we are all being subjected to which has permanently etched itself into the psyche and social fabric of this country with no way for anyone to escape it. Hence, no matter who you are and no matter what side of the fence you stand on politically, we all can easily predict the reason as to why we’re all suffering from the endemic of gun violence.
Although there is no clear-cut culprit as to why we are in the endemic stage of gun violence. There are several indicators that we can point to, and all agree on; and those indicators are politics and excessive bureaucracy, public ignorance, Hollywood and gun manufacturers. Keep in mind that the United States is the world's number one producer and manufacture of firearms. So, with that said, there is no way we’ll ever be able to curb or even put a dent into reducing and or stopping gun violence.
Mayor Turner and the Chief of Police did an excellent job addressing the teens and the general public in answering their questions regarding guns, gun violence and street gangs. I have to say that I agree with everything both Mayor Turner and the Chief of Houston Police had to say regarding gun rights, gun control and street gangs. But it is my position that they treaded too lightly as there was one caveat; and that caveat is that both the Mayor and the Chief of Houston Police really didn't want to admit the reality of the situation to the teens and general pubic possibly due to his “optimism”.
That is, that they can’t do anything to curb gun violence in the city of Houston nor can any other Mayor or Chief of Police in this country do anything in their cities regarding such. And that’s because the money of the gun manufacturers happens too long and too far reaching, and they [gun manufacturers] have brought off too many politicians via funneling their money and efforts through the NRA and other organizations like it. Moreover, this country itself furnishes too many countries with weapons. At best, the teens and every citizen in this country can engage in the practice of Risk Management/Risk Mitigation.
