[Miguel Uribe Turbay Columbia shooting] In the midst of campaigning for office, Columbian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot at least twice from the back with one round striking him in the lower extremities and head from a GLOCK pistol carried by a 15-year-old while campaigning in the capital of Columbia in the Fontibon District of Bogota at around 5pm. The suspected teen shooter was arrested and taken into police custody.

39-year-old Miguel Uribe Turbay is currently in the hospital and is stabilized but remains in critical condition and is undergoing “neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedures”. The attempted assassination of Miguel Uribe Turbay sends familiar chills down the spines of his supporters and his political opponents because it reminds them of 1991 when his mother Diana Turbay a Journalist was kidnapped and ultimately killed in a resume mission by drug traffickers under internationally known drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.

But there is more to Miguel Uribe Turbay than meets the eye. Miguel Uribe Turbay  is the grandson of Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala, a prominent political figure in Colombian politics who held political office between 1978 to 1982. Former governor Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala died in  2005. His grandson, Miguel Uribe Turbay is a graduate of American ivy league school Harvard and stood in solidarity with the right side of the political aisle in Colombian politics with key focuses on foreign investment and Colombian national security. Miguel Uribe Turbay was campaigning for Columbia’s 2026 presidential office.

This latest political assassination attempt has been denounced by not only Colombian politicians from both sides of the aisle but from political leaders all over the world. Although the attempted and failed assassination of Miguel Uribe Turbay is unfortunate, there is a significant number of people that wonder why there was any attempt to assassinate Miguel Uribe Turbay during this time.  While some point to the possibility of his political rival being involved in some way or another, other curious minds are pointing towards Miguel Uribe Turbay criticism of current politically left leaning Colombian President Gustavo Petro whose approval ratings are standing at 30-39%.

For every rhyme there's a reason and the assassination attempt on Miguel Uribe Turbay's life is no exception to the rule. He was shot for a reason, even though that reason has not been exposed to the world at this time. The Colombian government has also released a cash incentive of $730,000 for any information that may lead to a motive or individual that masterminded this attack on Miguel Uribe Turbay's life. None-the-less Columbia is no stranger to political violence. While this assassination attempt has been rebuked by political leaders the world over, it seems that there hasn’t been any world leader that has offered any solutions to prevent this from happening again. Until any solutions are created and acted upon, political violence will unfortunately continue.
