[India Missing 11-year-old girl gangrape] Leaving many people in India and the international community in shock and awe was the recent rape and killing of an Indian girl in the Surjyapur village of Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, the Indian state of West Gengal. This highly sensitive rape and killing led to one man who was declared innocent and cleared of wrong downing lynched and the targeted police killing of another man by the name of Prabhas Mondal who was suspected of the rape and killing after being seen on CCTV footage with the girl and being taken back to the scene of the crime shot by police. He was shot and killed as he attempted to leave the scene. The identity of the child that was raped and killed has not been released due out of respect for the family. This heinous crime drew the attention and anger of a significant number of residents in Baruipur city and led to the public disruption and chaos as well as the arrest of 35 people for violence and vandalism.
According to police investigation and autopsy, the 11-year-old victims went out to a birthday party around noon last Saturday and never returned home. When her body was discovered put into a sack and tossed into the pond while she was still alive but more than likely unconscious due to the sharp blow, she received to the back of the head. Her body also displayed signs of burns, bites and scratches suggesting that there was a struggle prior to and during the act of raping her. Her body was reportedly found and recovered from a pond outside of Kolkata. The autopsy results stated that the actual cause of her death was drowning and not necessarily the beating or the rape.
Those arrested for violence and vandalism were identified and apprehended due to a viral video footage on the web. It was also reported that roughly 200 people engaged in the vandalism of police cars and railway lines. The question that’s being asked is why? The violence, destruction, chaos, and vandalism occurred due to the Indian police district failing to take the missing person case seriously according to villagers and failed to respond in an adequate time to the crime that had taken place. In fact, it was reported that there was no response from the police in the district in which the crime occurred. While several suspects are in police custody for the crime, none have been charged.
While Police canvassed and conducted their investigation in the area in which the crime occurred, one angry and highly determined man was able to take away one of the police officers duty weapons and shoot at the officers. He attempted to flee the scene and was shot and died later of gunshot injuries at a nearby hospital. The 11-year-old girl who was raped and killed was the daughter of a Muslim family.
OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS
For decades Hindus and Muslims have had a bitter and oftentimes violent rivalry between practitioners of the two faiths. That coupled with the fact that India has perpetually had major issues with both violence towards and the gang raping of women. Despite the Indian government enacting stiff legal penalties and consequences for violence against women, these two crimes still run exceptionally high through the Indian continent. While it’s true that in 2024, crime statistics documented the reporting of 29,536 rape cases against women, it is widely accepted within India and the international community that that number could very well be double if not triple that.
Indians are taking the position that the Indian government is still after all these decades not doing enough when it comes to putting protections in place to shield women from being raped and victims of other forms of sexual violence. Prime minister Narendra Modi has yet to make any public comments on the situation but is expected to do so very soon. The question is what measures will prime minister Narendra Modi put in place to protect women from sexual crimes such as rape in India? While this is a situation to be handles by the Indian government, we suspect that foreign international bodies and interest groups will soon be playing a role in Indian affairs when it comes to shielding women for sexual violence and exploitation. Our prediction is that the rape and violence towards women within India will continue to go on with no end in sight.
