Over the weekend on Saturday, the Houston SaberCats faced off against the Nolo Gold which resulted in the Houston SaberCats defeating them on the pitch. Now before we get into the key stats for this game, it should be said that both teams played very well. Because of the highly competitive nature of both teams, their drive to win on the pitch almost resulted in a fight between both teams. Despite no blows being thrown, it was most definitely something to watch as fans of the Houston SaberCats seemed to be on the edge of their seats and to some degree appeared as if they were ready to jump in should a fight break out between the two teams.

 

Performance wise, the Houston SaberCats led in multiple categories. When it came to try’s the SaberCats led with 3 and in terms of ball possession the Houston SaberCats possessed the ball 53.07% of the time. The Nola Gold in contrast had 2 try’s and maintained possession of the ball 46.93% of the time. The SaberCats also dominated when it came to taking up real estate on the pitch with a 52.58% gain in this area while the Nola gold had territorial gains of 47.42%. not too much of a difference in this aspect but it is technically that was recorded.

On the upside of the Nola Gold, they led when it came to tackles; with 137 tackles to the SaberCats 121 tackles. Even though the Houston SaberCats may have led in the area of territorial gains, the Nola Gold dominated the SaberCats with 442 carrying meters, while the SaberCats fell behind with 436 carrying meters. Not a big difference there but it is a difference that should not go unnoticed. The Houston SaberCats again led when it came to crossing the gain line with 56 crosses and 1 conversion, while the Nola Gold had 50 crossed the gain line at an even 50 times and tied with the Houston SaberCats with 1 conversion.

 

The Nola Gold had one penalty kick while the Houston SaberCats had 0. However, when you look at kicking meters between the two teams, the SaberCats led in this statistic with 684 kicking meters to Nola Gold’s 638. The Houston SaberCats also led when it came to lineouts with 12 and when it came to penalties conceded standing at 12. The Nola Gold had 11 lineouts won, short by one tick under the SaberCats and 9 penalties conceded. The final score of the game resulted in the Houston SaberCats defeating the Nola Gold 17 to 15.
