If there was one word to sum up yesterday’s football match between the Houston Dynamo and the Seattle Sounders, that world would be “disappointing”. This is not to say that the Houston Dynamo didn’t play a great game, but what we mean by disappointment was that the Fans of the Houston Dynamo were really looking forward to the Houston Dynamo winning this particular game that would have helped to secure their position for one more game against the Seattle Sounders in the playoffs. Although the Houston Dynamos were unable to secure a goal in the first half, it wouldn’t be until almost the end of the second half that they would score a goal at roughly the 90-minute mark.
This game was an intense and aggressive game played by both teams, which led to Houston Dynamo player Hector Herrera being issued a red card for his conduct on the pitch (spitting at the referee). For Fans of the Houston Dynamos, this call was seen as more of a misunderstanding than anything. It should be also noted that Houston Dynamo Fans were generally upset about how one of the referees was calling the game so much so that a fan threw a whole tub of popcorn at him. That fan was placed in police custody.
The Houston Dynamos took an incredible 18 shots, the most anyone has seen from them in a while, while the Seattle Sounders took 14 shots. The Houston Dynamo also had 7 shots on target under their belt while the Seattle Sounders had a mere 1. When it came to ball possession the Houston Dynamos took possession of the ball 53% of the time when compared to the Seattle Sounders 47%. Both teams had a high number of successful passes that connected on the pitch with the Houston Dynamos having 473 passes to the Seattle Sounders 424.
Backing the claim that both teams performed well when it came to successful passes, both teams were equal when it came to pass accuracy - 86%. Due to the high level of intensity and aggressive playing between both teams there were a high number of fouls that occurred, with the Houston Dynamo leading the Seattle Sounders 12 to 11. The Houston Dynamo acquired 4 yellow cards to the Seattle Sounders 1. The Dynamos also acquired 2 offsides calls while the Sounders acquired 0. The Dynamos also fell behind when it came to corners taken, 7 to the Seattle Sounders 8.
With the game tied, both teams engaged in a penalty kick-out to determine who would be the winner of last night’s match. Some Dynamo Fans were caught holding their breaths in hopes of the Houston Dynamo coming out on top. In all, even though this was the last game of the season, it was a well-played game between both teams which kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Did frustration set in for Dynamo Fans? In short, the answer is yes. But what really has Dynamo Fans furious was the Houston Dynamo’s inability to score a win against the Seattle Sounders last night.
