[NATASHA WILSON CHANCE OF HOPE AND PROSPERITY COHAP BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE] Natasha Wilson, known locally as the Leading Lady for Operation Turkey and Chief Executive Officer for the 501c(3) Chance of Hope and Prosperity (COHAP), held a back-to-school drive for students and parents at Texas Southern University. With thousands in attendance, students of all ages were able to not only obtain backpacks and writing utensils, but they were able to get updated vaccination shots saving parents and guardians a wealth of time having to go to doctors’ offices during the beginning of the school years. Participating students were also able to get haircuts as well.
Beyond addressing the needs of students, parents and guardians were also able to apply for jobs as there was a job fair happening at the same time their children were being entertained by various dance and music artists during this year's back-to-school event. resume and job interview workshops were also held. Going a step further COHAP also addresses the need for mental health within the community by hosting a panel filled with mental health professionals that were able to answer questions concerning mental health by all those in attendance that had questions. Academic scholarships were also given to raffle winners throughout the day's festivities.
Volunteers also appeared to play a major part in today's event as they aided those in attendance by guiding them to different vendor booths and concession stands. Worthy of note Yeshua Diaz of Harris County Flood Control District played a vital role in aiding in today's back-to-school event by making attendees feel comfortable as well as addressing their needs as they came about making crowd flow effortless for organizers.
