[PAKISTAN SAUDI ARABIA TÜRKIYE MECCA PACT] Trilateral talks between Sunni Muslim countries Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye appear to be what many are calling an “Islamic NATO” in West Asia. Also known as the “Mecca Pact”, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, all of which are allies of the Americans appear to have decided to form the trilateral security alliance out of an abundance of caution that the American’s cannot guarantee security for their nations despite the Americans having military assists such as airbases and missile defenses systems in their home countries. in a bold Press statement, Pakistani President Shehbaz Sharif stated: “an armed ⁠attack on any one of the ⁠three countries would be ⁠regarded as an ⁠attack against them all.”

Long awaiting to move away from depending on the Americans for defense, This trilateral defense pact has been months in the making and With Saudi Arabia covering finance due to its oil producing capabilities, Pakistan with its nuclear arsenal, and Türkiye with its immense military apparatus which is one of the strongest in the NATO alliance, it appears that the three countries are well on their way of being a mega fighting force in the region. This trilateral defense pact developed to augment the American military presence in their respective countries under the guise that as a combined defense pact, they would be able to counter any miscalculations from either India, proxy Kurdish militias such as PKK, Iran, the Americans, and Israel.

It should be noted that several attempts at establishing a transnational security defense pact have been tried in the past but ultimately failed due to internal differences and external influence. In developing this trilateral security defense pact, the possibility of countries such as Iran, India, and various other opposition groups which come in the form of proxy fighters may strategically align in unexpected ways to combat this newly formed trilateral agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. This defense pact will serve as an umbrella for interdependent defense for air, cyber, land, and naval power that will be deployed in the future to protect strategic assets from each of the three countries in terms of commercial ports and shipping, energy infrastructure.
