[TURKIYE PKK PARDON] Declared as a major with for the win for the government of Türkiye, in an approved vote of 468 (majority) and 88 against in the 600-seat Parliament, a new law was passed that would serve as the groundwork for the disbandment of the PKK (Kurdish Workers Party) which was deemed a Terrorist Group by the Turkish government in 1984. The war between the Turkish government and the PKK has been going on for decades and has resulted in the killing of 40,000 people. The newly passed law would allow for amnesty for many PKK members as well as the suspension of prison sentences for many PKK members.
With the birth of the bill which started in 20214 and is now law by anti-Kurdish militant hardliner MHP leader Devlet Bahceli; the passing of the law was both cultivated and massively supported trilaterally from President Tayyip Erdogan's AK Party as well as its nationalist MHP allies and the pro-Kurdish DEM Party. This comes after years of socio-political division amongst the large Kurdish population in the southeast region of Türkiye. It should be known that the decision for the PKK to disarm in making way for the law of amnesty to come about didn’t come due to the efforts of the Turkish government alone. The PKK Founder, Abdullah Ocalan also known as "Apo" who founded the PKK in 1978 who was captured and convicted in 1999 and is currently serving a life sentence convince his followers to disarm in an effort to broker peace and greater stability with the Turkish government for the advancement of Türkiye and its people.
While many PKK fighters will receive amnesty under the new law for crimes that would normally result in prison time between five and 10 years, its Founder Abdullah Ocalan will remain in prison for life. Despite his life sentence, Abdullah Ocalan currently plays a vital role in the nation's political system and because of his efforts to work with the government of Türkiye, an estimated 3,500 PKK fighters that fell under his command will be subsequently released from prison. Geopolitical Analysts have reached the conclusion that the timing of the passing of the law comes at a time where the Americans and other western aligned countries are looking to capitalize and exploit the use of armed proxy groups like the PKK to fight its wars in the region.
Backing this position is the fact that America is currently in talks to back Kurdish warfighting groups to do its bidding on the battlefield against Iran. In a proactive response, Türkiye has decided to take the necessary steps to counter the perceived provocative actions by the Americans to prevent any rise of social, political, and economic instability in Türkiye.
