UNITED RUSSIA PARTY WINS ELECTIONS IN DUMA

[UNITED RUSSIA PARTY WINS ELECTION DUMA] With over 58% of votes won, in an election that stemmed from a 60% voter turnout, Russian President Vladimir Putin United Russia Party has won what some are calling a “Super Majority” in the recent parliamentary polls after three days of voting which ended on Sunday. The United Russia Party appears to be on a clear path to secure victory in the State Duma or the Lower House as The Russia United Party obtained a record 355 parliamentary seats or 80% of the 450-seat Duma. It should be noted that the United Russia Party has dominated the Russian political system for over 25 years.
Other parties such as the Nationalist LDPR secured 8.98% of voters, while the New Peoples Party secured 7.96%, and the Communist Party captured 13.81% of voters which translates into roughly 25, 20, and 40 seats in the State Duma. The anti-war Yabloko Party failed to secure any of the votes needed to score a seat in the Duma. This result comes despite the Yabloko obtaining an estimated 12,000 votes during this election cycle.
While the election results fail to come as a surprise to many people across Russia, it has largely been found that the voting process has been democratic within the confines of Russia. Elsewhere such in places as the United Kingdom, there is a population of observers who are taking the position that the opposite is true and that the Kremlin has engaged in methods that limit or banned the voice of certain parties that fail to support Russia in the war against Ukraine as well as restricting the ability of international election monitors to do their jobs.
This is the first election since Russia's Special Military Operation now turned hot war against Ukraine. For President Putin this comes as good news and is reported to be easily translated as unwavering support for Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
