[U.S. Open Cup Houston Dynamo Louisville City FC] Tonight's match-up between the Houston Dynamos and the Louisville City FC at round 16 of the 2026 U.S. The Open Cup is a highly energized one that has fans sitting on the edge of their seats. With neither team scoring a point in the first half, there’s still hope for both the Houston Dynamo and their fans. By the 44th minute of the match, the Houston Dynamo had two shots on target out of eight shot attempts. They also acquired five fouls, four corner kicks and one save. The red or yellow cards were issued to the Houston Dynamo. In contrast, Louisville City FC had one shot on target out of two shot attempts and six fouls. They had two saves and one yellow card was issued. It should be noted that the Louisville City FC had no corner kicks in the first half.
By the end of the first half the Houston Dynamo statistically possessed the ball more than Louisville City FC, in which they possessed the ball 72% of the time while the Louisville City FC possessed the ball roughly 30% of the time. The question fans are asking is if the Dynamo had possession of the ball 3/4 of the time during the first half, why aren’t they attacking more and taking more shots? The second half of the match for the Houston Dynamo appeared to be on par with the first half with the only difference being that it seemed as if the Houston Dynamo were struggling to score a goal. This was significantly magnified when Forward Ray Serrano Lopez of Louisville City FC scored the first goal of the night at the 67th minute of the match. But what many fans would call a miracle at the 89th minute of the match, Houston Dynamo center-back Erik Sviatchenko would score the Dynamo’s first goal of the night. His goal was considered to be a morale booster for the team.
At the 101st minute, the Houston Dynamo Ezequiel Ponce would follow up with another goal, breaking the tie and placing the Houston Dynamo ahead of Louisville City FC. This match went into overtime with an additional 15 minutes added to the match time. Louisville City FC, still playing with heart, didn't seem to have the ability to close the gap in terms of scoring another goal.
For the second half the Houston Dynamo had eight shots on target with 20 total shot attempts. They also finished with 12 fouls, two yellow cards, 10 corner kicks and two saves. The Louisville City FC took a total of 12 shots with four shots on target. They racked up 15 fouls and two yellow cards. When it came to corner kicks, they executed three and had a total of seven saves. Final score: 2 Houston Dynamo two, Louisville city FC one.
