It's official. Fans of the Houston Dash are tired of the Dash losing. It’s getting to the point where some fans are leaning into the idea that both the head coach and the assistant coach be fired. When we spoke with a few Houston Dash fans this past weekend after the team suffered another loss at the hands of the Los Angeles FC on the pitch. Many fans of the Houston Dash feel as if they are not aggressive enough on the pitch, but they also feel like the Houston Dash like their Houston Dynamo counterparts, needs to place 3 times the number of shots on target in order to score more points during a match than they currently do.

This past game over the weekend marks yet another painful reminder that if the Houston Dash doesn’t start winning matches, the few dedicated fans that they have will ultimately turn their back on them. This is not to say that they won’t come out to watch an American soccer match, because there is a difference between a fan of a team and a fan of the sport. But what Houston Dash needs more than ever are not only fans of the sport, but they desperately need fans of the team.

While the Los Angeles FC played pretty much a “square” game, fans of American soccer were wondering why the Houston Dash perpetually failed to drive the ball forward towards the goal on the pitch. Instead of driving the ball forward, they seemed to shuffle the ball back and forward between themselves and a number of times the Houston Dash was seen kicking the ball backwards towards Los Angeles’s half of the course and in doing so allowed the ball or essentially gave the ball away to Los Angeles FC.

Looking at the stats, the Dash took a total of 14 shots with 3 shots on target while Los Angeles FC took 13 shots and had 6 shots on target. As usual the Houston Dash had more possession of the ball than their opponent. In this match the Houston Dash had possession of the ball 69% of the time compared to Los Angeles FC possessing the ball 31% of the time. Even though the Houston Dash had a total of 607 successful passes – successful passes don’t win games. This goes back to what was mentioned earlier. The Houston Dash held on to the ball too much and passed the ball amongst themselves too much instead of driving the ball towards the goal.

Los Angeles had 278 successful passes with a pass accuracy rate of 75% while the Houston Dash had a pass accuracy rate of 83%. Again, passes successful or not, don’t win matches – scored points do. While Los Angeles FC racked up 12 fouls, the Houston Dash racked up half that for a total of 6 fouls.  While no red cards were given, yellow cards were. The Houston Dash received 1 yellow card while Los angles FC received 2. Los angles FC was called offsides 2 times and took 2 corners. The Houston Dash took 8 corners and had no calls for being offsides.

Looking at the big chances, the Dash had 2 with 1 big chance missed. In contrast Los Angeles FC had 1 big chance with 0 big chances missed. The Houston Dash led when it came to shots blocks as it had 7 shots blocked while Los Angeles FC had 2 blocked shots. Los Angeles FC led when it came to tackles won with 13 tackles at 52%, while the Houston Dash had 5 tackles at 62%. The Dash led in terms of keeper saves with 3 with 9 clearances. Los Angeles had 2 keeper saves and 30 clearances. The Houston Dash also led when it came to interceptions with 12 to Los Angeles’s 11.

The head-to-head record between THE Houston Dash and Los Angeles FC stands at both the Houston Dash and Los Angeles FC tied with 1 win apiece with 3 draws between the two teams. The next Houston Dash game will be played in Kansas City against the Kansas City Current’s on Saturday, April 19th at 6:30pm. The head-to-head record between the Houston Dash and the kc current stands at the kc current having 3 wins, Houston Dash 0 wins, with 2 draws between the two teams. Will the Houston Dash win or lose their next upcoming match between the kc current? Fans of the Houston Dash are currently on edge with uncertainty.
