[America Iran nuclear talks Oman] With negotiations that were set to happen between today in Istanbul, Türkiye between America and Iran, due to the American military shooting down a Shahed-139 Iranian drone with a F-35C fighter plane which they allegedly claimed flew “aggressively” towards the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. Due to America's actions, many people within the international community are wondering if the negotiations are in jeopardy. Regardless, Iran has requested that the negotiation be relocated to Muscat, Oman. This sets the tone for the newest round of negotiations as the two countries previously held nuclear talks and negotiations there. Those in attendance for this series of negotiations will be Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and American special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Other key observers will be Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
While the American military has stated that it shot the drone down in self-defense, the Iranians have stated that the drone had no weapons on board as it was engaged in surveillance activities in the region. With geopolitical tensions high between America and Iran in conjunction with the latest actions of America shooting down an Iranian drone at sea, both the location and the topics to be discussed at the meeting between the two nations have been changed. While the details of what's to be discussed between the two nations remain elusive, there appears to be no shortage of speculators and speculations on what's to be discussed during negotiations. Despite the Americans seeking to address Topics of Iranian nuclear enrichment, Iranian weapon use, proxy groups, the death of protestors in the recent Iranian riots, and the easing of sanctions.
Iran is only seeking to address the concerns of it’s nuclear ambitions, programs, level of enrichment, and actions and counter-attack options if attacked by America or Israel. Currently the Americans want Iran to lower its nuclear enrichment process to 0% and for Iran to transfer 60% of its processed uranium outside the country. Russia has stated that it would hold Iran's processed uranium. Iran in contrast has and is predicted to always reject any notions to stop its nuclear program or transfer its enriched uranium to a third-party within the international community.
The Americans are hoping to use its military buildup in the region as a point of leverage against Iran. It is predicted that Iran will stand its ground if attacked and that they will launch a lethal counter-offensive to American bases and assets in the region as well as Israel. While Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is facing surmounting criticism and political pressure not to engage in talks with the Americans because of their record of not honoring their agreement, Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei also has expressed his high level of skepticism when it comes trusting the Americans on this matter due to decades of American led weaponized sanctions and perpetual failure of American Foreign Policy.
