AMERICAN SPACE BASED WEAPON THREAT

[AMERICAN SPACE WEAPONS] The Americans have officially announced that they have weaponized Space, an action according to many Political Analysts is a violation of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty which was signed into International Law to prevent nations from weaponizing Space and other orbital bodies. From that point up until recent times, Space was only to be used for scientific, weather documentation, and explorative measures. However, Air Force Secretary Troy Menik stated on Monday that the American Military has “on-orbit space control weapons capable of defending the Joint Force against hostile adversary action.” He followed up by also stating “We are increasing readiness against existing threats.”
Although America is not the first country to weaponize Space, it would be Russia who was the first to do so in 1974 with a dual-purpose space-based weapon and satellite called the Salyut-3 which was also armed with a canon that fired 20 rounds while in orbit. The American Space Force, which was created under the Trump Administration in 2019, has been set to take charge of such orbital weapons that can execute strikes towards perceived hostile enemies of the Americans as well as cause destruction against selected targets on earth and other satellite systems. While not considered outright weapons that can be used directly against any country on Earth; India, China, and Russia also have anti-satellite weapons in space to protect their orbital assets. Both China and Russia have openly condemned the actions of the Americans to weaponize Space in such a manner under the premise that "stands for peaceful use of the outer space and keeping it safe and opposes any arms race in outer space or any attempt to weaponize it and turn it into a warzone” according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.
Countering China’s position was the Director of the Capability and Resource Integration Directorate at U.S. Space Command Richard Palmer who stated "The acknowledgment of these space-control capabilities is fundamental to ensuring that we prevent deterrence from failing, and that we are postured and ready should deterrence fail to employ them effectively. The bottom line is that our joint force and our allied forces require space. Our economies require space. We are ready in the U.S. to preserve that."
Currently it is unknown when and how long the Americans have placed orbital weapons in Space. But what is known is the classification of such weapons in Space. The first classification of space-based weapon systems are Space-to-Space Weapons which can either collide with or fire weapons at other orbital weapons and satellites. The second classification of Space-to-Space Weapons would be Space to Earth weapons in which Space-Based Weapons would have the ability to deploy target strikes on land-based targets on the earth’s surface.

With the Americans attempting to project power in an effort to control space which is defined by the American Space Force as “having the outcome of space superiority, which they define as the ability to operate at the time and place of their choosing, while denying the same to an adversary”; we predict that other nations have received the proverbial green light to also construct Space-Based-Weapons in the same manner as the Americans. With this, it can easily be understood why there is so much cause for concern amongst both Geopolitical and Military Analysts within the international community.
Variables such as the degree of collateral damage, uncertainty from possible rogue state actors, the inexplicable, and unforeseen blowback and consequences all come into play. It should also be known that there is also an undeclared and significant amount of “Space Junk” already orbiting around the planet earth, for conservationists, the potential for an increase in additional “trash” is another cause for concern. With so many known and more importantly unknowns, the one thing that should be well known is that other developed countries will be also seeking to match the Americans when it comes to Space-Based-Weapons as a method of both deterrence and for the protection of both their orbital and earthbound assets.
