[FIRE CANADIAN MILITARY BASE WIND] At roughly 4pm In Edmonton, Alberta, an estimated 4 people have been killed with another estimated 39 injured with 19 of those people in critical condition when a fire broke out at a Canadian military base involving the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry Unit which is a part of the 3rd Battalion Charlie Company as soldiers were executing live fire drills. Due to the exceptionally high shifting winds the fire was able to rapidly spread a full kilometer within 36 seconds. Wind speeds as fast as 62 mph not only fanned the flames but also destroyed property and knocked down trees. It was reported that some Canadian military officials knew about the fire but failed to extinguish it as they believed that the fire was contained within the area it was in.
While live grenades were used during the training session, it is currently unknown if the grenades played any role in the blaze of fire that claimed the lives of the Canadian soldiers. Although all the names of the affected soldiers have not been released, it was reported that the few soldiers that were killed during today’s massive fire were Sgt. Morgan Wong of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment and Privates Shaun Farrell, Aidan Goulding and Hayden Lykkemark. Some of the soldiers that survived the blaze are currently facing burns on the face and other extremities.
Ambulances, airplanes, and helicopters were displayed in order to transport victims to nearby hospitals that were ready to address this mass casualty event. All Canadian flags have been ordered to be lowered to half-staff on all federal Canadian buildings. The soldiers and personnel that took part in this drill were training to be rapidly deployed to Latvia to engage in providing aid and reinforcement to fellow Canadian soldiers in preparation for a potential global crisis next spring. Canadian Prime minister Mark Carney held a Press conference to address the situation.
