GERMANY’S COMING BACK: ALTERNATIVE FOR GERMANY (AFD) WINS LOCAL ELECTION

Written by Michael Thervil

[GERMANY ALTERNATIVE FOR GERMANY AFD ELECTION] Earning 43.8% of the vote in recent German elections, the AFD (Alternative For Germany) which is described by German Intelligence agencies as a “right-wing extremist organization” and “xenophobic”, has won the Saxony-Anhalt, an eastern German state. With a record-breaking voter turnout of 78%, numbers that have not been seen since Germany was reunified in 1990. The AFD effectively defeated Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Party who came in second, only securing 17.2% of votes in this election. For Chancellor Friedrich Merz who’s been suffering from extremely low approval ratings, AFD winning this election appears to serve as not only a wake up call, but a signaling of a possible changing of the guard.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz was quoted giving the following statement to the German Press: “We are all deeply shocked. We did not expect this to happen in this way. Yesterday marked a turning point, not only in Saxony-Anhalt, but throughout Germany. I must admit, this is the most serious election defeat that the CDU has had for years, for decades.”
According to reports, it seems as if many German voters have grown tired of Germany not only appearing weak and economically compromised on the world stage, but they also appear to have become frustratingly exhausted of partisan politics within Germany. Beyond what some are calling a “hyper-patriotic” position within the international community; the things that makes the AFD resonate with the majority of German voters are their other political positions which include taking a hard stance on significantly increasing border security and creating a deportation taskforce which would be charged with tracking, capturing, and deporting illegal aliens and those that fall into this demographic who commit crimes within Germany. It should also be noted that the AFD and its supporters are in high favor of restoring positive diplomatic relations with Russia while seeking to cut off German funding to Ukraine.
Another highly supported position was the AFD position when it came to the promotion of homeschooling and the types of educational textbooks that students should be issued. Members of the AFD are also anti-LGBTQ and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo with it comes to criticizing Jews within their country and abroad. Due to the AFD’s electoral win, some Political Analysts are calling the AFD win a “political blowout” that will “undoubtably rewrite the current course of modern German history”. With over 2.1 million eligible voters in Saxony-Anhalt, a population size comparable to the City of Houston, Texas, it appears that the political pendulum is swinging in favor of Germans that unapologetically support a more conservative position.
Those within Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s CDU Party and other center and left-wing parties in Germany have been pushing the narrative that the AFD projects the sentiment of Germany Nazi past. Despite this perspective, it appears that those that support and are in favor of the AFD not only don’t seem to mind the accusation, but they are appearing to “own it” and take no issue with calling a “spade a spade”. For those that supported and voted for the AFD, they argue that the AFD allows their voices to be heard when it comes to addressing high fuel and energy prices and the lack of employment opportunity within Germany. All of this in conjunction with AFD voters and supporters expressing that they have “lost faith” in their political institutions to successfully govern them has been considered by Political Analysts.
Despite the AFD officially winning this local election, it should be noted that there are still barriers by what is known in Germany as “Brandmauer” or a “Political Firewall” that has played a role in slowing down their ability to fully govern Germany for decades. The Political Firewall being mentioned here is a governmental administrative control that was created and institutionalized to prevent those who support the far-right from gaining a foothold in the German political system. With the AFD winning today's election, it appears that the Brandmauer or Political Firewall has been breached.
OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS
With the AFD winning this local election, this is nothing more than the start of a both a political trend and shift in German politics that will more than likely restore the reputation of Germany within the international community as a national power within Europe. For too long Germany has become weakened by left leaning logic that has ultimately done more harm than good. Economically, Germany could also very well benefit from the leadership of the AFD.
If those currently in power wish to continue to stay in power, we recommend that they find a way to incorporate the AFD into the political agendas immediately. We predict that the failure to do so will only amplify the voice, increase the voter drive, and strengthen the position of the AFD. The question that we have is why pour fuel on a fire burning elsewhere and complain about it burning, when one can pour a line of fuel connecting that fire to their own and conduct the direction its heat?
