[JORDAN GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH SHOOTING] Days ago, unknown shooters in masks opened fire within the walls of a Greek Orthodox Church in Jordan wounding dozens and killing eight people in Karak during a funeral procession. Today those three shooters have been apprehended by Jordanian Security Forces and are set to stand trial at an unspecified date. The three perpetrators were found hiding in an abandoned house in the Al-Jadeeda village, also located in Karak and when confronted by Jordanian Security Forces, they resisted by opening fire. Jordanian security forces responded by returning fire and suppressing the actions of the perpetrators.

This information was provided to the Press according to Jordanian Public Security Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah. King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein who previously stated that “we will not allow society to go down this path” followed by his urging of law-enforcement to respond with “an iron fist” has now ordered that there be a “firm response” for the suspects in custody. While all three suspects were injured prior to their surrendering, there were no reports of casualties amongst Security Forces. Government Communication Minister Mohammad Momani openly praised the actions and the results of Jordanian security forces referring to the operation as a “successful joint operation”.

It should be noted that Greek Orthodox Christians are considered a minority in Jordan. While the motive of the attack is still relatively unclear, what's more puzzling to Jordanian authorities is who or what organization was behind the attack in question as no organization has claimed responsibility for this attack. This situation is still unfolding and will be updated when more information is available.
