[Houthis Saudi Arabia ships Red Sea] While America continues its war on Iran and with Iran militarily holding their ground in the Strait of Hormuz, Yemen’s Ansarullah also known as the Houthis executed drone, ballistic and cruise missile barrages on an estimated 10 ships that were trying to set sail through their blockade of the red sea. According to the spokesperson for Ansarullah Yahya Saree “We targeted two Saudi oil tankers, named ENCELA and LAYLIA, for their violation of the blockade decision issued by the armed forces.” Striking the hull and engine rooms of the ships, several large fires broke out, and the vessels were forced to reverse their courses out of the red sea.
The vessels in question have been rumored to be vessels native to Saudi Arabia. The Houthis led blockade and assault on these vessels in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait comes at a time where Saudi Arabia has been seeking alternative commercial shipping routes to avoid Iran's highly effective blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. It is well known internationally that the Houthis don’t bluff; meaning when they say they are going to do something, they actually do it, regardless of the size of the opposing force against them. According to the Houthis, they reserve the right to invoke a blockade on top of the blockade that was originally enacted on them. Despite this, the government of Saudi Arabia rebutted by taking the position that they were not attempting to enact a blockade on Yemen in its waters.
It is predicted that Ansarullah (Houthis) will not only play a major role in the continuing of blockading western aligned ships in the Bab al-Mandeb, but they will also increase their level of aggressiveness in the region as the war between America, Israel, and Iran continues to escalate.
