[Iran American Destroyer strike] Both geopolitical and military tensions continue to rise in the Strait of Hormuz as earlier today Iran has fired and severely damaged an American Destroyer. The American Destroyer was struck two times by Iran and was forced to retreat. The Iranian missile offensive came after it was warned by the Iranian military and ignored the warning to retreat from the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred near the Iranian town of Jask, which is located at the narrowest point of the Strait of Hormuz. The reason for Iran executing a missile offensive was because they perceived that the American Destroyer was “violating security and navigation rules [and] intending to pass through”. Iranian military officials also stated that: “any foreign military force, especially the invading American army… will be attacked”.

CENTCOM (U.S. Central Command) has both rejected and downplayed the claims of Iran. In a statement released to the press, they stated: “no US Navy ships have been struck” and that “US forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports”. Speculators within the international community appear to side with the claims of Iran. This is due to the fact that the Trump Administration announced yesterday that they were going to “help free up” commercial ships that have been essentially jammed in the Strait of Hormuz. Many within the international community doubt that the Trump Administration can fulfill it's promise to protect commercial ship as there are over 2,000 commercial ships that would need such protection in the region.

The Trump Administration stated that the American military would embark on a humanitarian mission entitled "Project Freedom" in which its goal would be to “guide” commercial vessels “so that they can freely and ably get on with their business”. It should be noted that the Americans have announced that they sunk 6 Iranian ships. Whether these Iranian ships were man or unmanned, it has not been confirmed. In fact, the Iranians have denied that the American’s have sunk any of their ships.

While it is uncertain what the next move of both America and Iran will be, the one thing that is known is that the average person on the street will feel the burn of this trilateral war in their purses and wallets. As the price of gas in America stands at an estimated $4.4 per gallon, there are some places in America in which the price of a gallon of gas stands at $5 and nearly $6 per gallon. If this trend continues $5 per gallon could be the next national average for a gallon of gas. The price of gas is not the only thing adversely affected by the actions of the Trump Administration towards Iran.

The cost of Apparel and textiles have increased 15%. The cost of medical supplies has also seen an increase by 20% and in some cases 80%. The question many are asking is when is enough, enough when it comes to both the Americans and Israel interfering in the sovereign business of countries like Iran and other countries throughout the region of West Asia? Currently the answer to that question is unknown.
