[Israel bombs southern Lebanon] The IDF (Israeli defense force) executed several airstrikes in the southern cities of al-Sharqiya, Tayr Debba, Kfar Dounine, and Zawtar, Lebanon in what they say are meant to prevent Hezbollah from rearming. Currently the Lebanese military has stated that they have confiscated an estimated 85% of weapons that belong to Hezbollah. Despite a ceasefire deal taking place, Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire deal which was signed roughly a year ago.

The reason for today's aerial strikes by the IDF was because they declared the buildings to be sites used by Hezbollah. At the moment, the IDF has provided no proof that Hezbollah has been operating in the buildings that were bombed. It should be noted that Hezbollah has not shown any signs of violent or aggressive actions towards Israel since the signing of the ceasefire agreement.

Israel expressed that they feel that the Lebanese government should act faster in how they deal with Hezbollah. The Lebanese government in contrast stated that they are moving at the pace that they are moving so that they do not create “strife” with the public. Israeli spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian stated to Press:

“Israel will continue to defend all its borders, and we also continue to insist on the full enforcement of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel. We will not allow Hezbollah to rearm themselves, to recover, to build back up its strength to threaten the state of Israel.”

OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS

With Lebanon supposedly being a sovereign country, why is Israel allowed to indiscriminately execute aerial strikes in Lebanon with impunity and essentially steal Lebanese owned land by military force with no resistance by the Lebanese government? This is precisely why organizations such as Hezbollah exist. Granted the situation in both Lebanon and the entire East Asian region is complex, but the argument can be made that Lebanese president Joseph Aoun and prime minister Nawaf Salam appear to project weak leadership in the face of Israel and the collective west. This is why we don’t foresee an organization like Hezbollah disarming anytime in the future as if Hezbollah does, Israel would more than likely see that not only as a sign of weakness, but as a green light to seize even more Lebanese land.
