Yesterday was a busy day for the newly elected Mayor of Houston Texas, John Whitmire. It started off with him being publicly inaugurated, then followed by a swift transition to this meeting and shaking the hands of citizens who lined up by the hundreds to do so at City Hall. Right after that, he held a City Council meeting in which even more citizens could exercise their invites to meet him and ask questions to include the likes of his political rival Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-lee who also stopped in to wish him and his administration the best of luck during his term in the mayoral office.
The good news is that anyone could tell that Mayor Whitmire is extremely politically savvy as he has been in the political arena since the age of 22, and that’s a good thing because we live in an age where people seem too eager to record videos and take pictures of political figures doing less than favorable things. So, it should be relatively easy for him to observe and avoid the pitfalls and any other blunders that may paint him and his administration a negative light. But even more than that, many Houstonians that lined up to shake hands with Mayor John Whitmire seem to have felt comfortable with their new Mayor.
Being a hardliner on cracking down on crime within the City of Houston and reaffirming his pledge to fix the infrastructure of Houston he may be just what many Houstonians were asking for. However, for those people that identify as being initiated by having to watch the political chessboard over the decades – they may seem skeptical of how many of the campaign promises Mayor John Whitmire can actually bring into fruition.
See, it’s easy for people to Monday morning quarterback what they would do and how they would not only fix but turn things around – but it’s a different story when that same person sits in the “drivers’ seat”. This is not to say that Mayor John Whitmire doesn’t have a game plan of execution to get things done. What we are saying is that it could be possible that the newly elected Mayor may not have been privy to all of the issues, situations, and conditions that may have been kept under wraps from the public view during the reign of his previous successor and the ones before that.
It's possible that some things may have been deemed restricted or classified as “sensitive information”. Either way, unforeseen situations and circumstances could possibly become that “monkey wrench” that could stifle the plans he may have for Houston as Mayor. Again, no one can say with any degree of certainty except for those on the inside who may be at liberty to verify that this is the case or not. Only time will tell – as it usually does. But for now.
