[S&P Global CERAWEEK 2026 Daniel Yergin Martina Cheung Chris Wright] With today being the first day of CERAWEEK 2026, it appeared to be no shortage of heavy hitters and industry tycoons and S&P Global kicked off this year's event with the likes of Martina Cheung who did the opening remarks and who is also the President, CEO, and member of the Board of Directors for S&P Global, Chris Wright U.S. Department of Energy, Mike Wirth Chairman of the Board and CEO of Chevron, John Ketchum Chairman and CEO of NextEra Energy, Ruth Porat President & Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, Adebayo Ogunlesti Chairman and CEO of Global Infrastructure Partners (BlackRock), Patrick Pouyanne Chairman and CEO of Total Energies SE, and Jim Farley who is the President and CEO of Ford.

On the top of the list of topics covered consisted of Artificial Intelligence, western energy independence and dominance, the direction and future of oil and gas extraction, and of course America's war of aggression towards Iran in West Asia (Middle East). It should be noted that UAE’s Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber was unable to attend CERAWEEK 2026 due to the geopolitical tensions and war within West Asia. However, he did submit a video expressing his gratitude and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) unwavering commitment to energy security, reliability, and stability in the region. Remarks that many of the detractors of the UAE and other western friendly countries in West Asia seem to scoff at as they have openly criticized the UAE and other West Asian nations who decided to house American airbases, troops, and other military assets in their respective countries.
Speaking with attendees, they expressed that this year's agora section appeared to be somewhat smaller than last year's CERAWEEK event. Some of the attendees we spoke with cited that it was possible that budget constraints and the current geopolitical climate may have played a role in the size of this year's event. The subject of infrastructure was also touched on when BlackRock affiliated Adebayo Ogunlesti of Nigeria and who played a vital role in the acquisition of the Panama Canal as an effort to combat Chinese influence within the region took to the stage with Daniel Yergin. It's already predicted that the three-sided war between Israel, America, and Iran and the fallout that will follow will dominate nearly all the panel conversations this year at CERAWEEK 2026.
In terms of zero net carbons and sustainability, these are two topics that will be heavily discussed during CERAWEEK, as the global push for sustainability gains even more traction. With that, the issue of both energy distribution and disruption also comes into play as Artificial Intelligence, another major industry that will be heavily talked about, comes to the forefront. AI is largely seen as an “energy guzzler” and by some measures a necessary evil that cannot be fully sustained by the current standards of the world. With that comes the AI bubble due to what many are calling an over investment into AI. While AI is largely considered to be a global achievement, the results that it yields is considered "marginal at best” by many tech analysts throughout the world. CERAWEEK 2026 will be going on through Friday of this week at both the Hilton Americas and George R. Brown convention center in Downtown Houston Texas.
