[Vladimir Putin Ukraine residence] With Ukraine either purposely or accidentally deploying drones to Russian President Vladimir Putin's home which is in the Novgorod Region of Russia, the result appears to be the same, extreme retaliation. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: “Russia’s negotiating position will be revised considering Ukraine’s reckless actions”. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also followed this statement with: “Targets for retaliatory strikes and the time for their implementation by the Russian Armed Forces have been determined.” Maria Zakharova who stands as Russia’s Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated:
“The unprecedented nature of this attack lies in the fact that it was carried out during the negotiations in the United States… At the very moment, when plans are being discussed, this, excuse me, bloody, rabid, terrorist scum, is undermining peace efforts.”
A total of 91 kamikaze drones were launched towards President Putin's home which were intercepted and shot down. Ukrainian leader Volodymir Zelenskyy has denied allegations that the Ukrainian military targeted President Putin's residence. The Trump Administration has expressed outrage over the Ukraine strikes and said that the attacks came at a “delicate period of time” and made him “very angry" and “Thank God, we did not give the Tomahawks”. President Trump went on and stated: “Early in the morning [Putin] said he was attacked. It’s not good. Don’t forget, you know, the Tomahawks. I stopped the Tomahawks. I didn’t want that”.
Again, whether Ukraine meant for the drone attacks to occur at President Putin's home has now been perceived by various politicians at the Kremlin to include the chairman of the State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky as an act of terrorism; but has now significantly escalated the war to the point where Russian politicians see this latest Ukrainian attack as a plot to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.
All of this comes after Ukraine launched a previous set of kamikaze drones that were all intercepted late last week. For many within the international community that have been following the special military operation now turned war, this latest escalation by Ukraine has increased the level of Russia’s credibility when it recently stated that Ukraine has no willingness to negotiate peace and find a way to stop the war.
