[Al Green Slavery Remembrance Breakfast] Over this past weekend, Saturday August 16th; House of Representative Member Al Green held the “4th Annual Slavery Remembrance Legislative Update Breakfast Meeting” in Houston, Texas at the Wyndham Hotel near NRG Stadium. The 4th Annual Slavery Remembrance Legislative Update Breakfast Meeting was free to the residents of Houston. With well over 500 people in attendance, this breakfast was a way for Black Americans to not only remember the brutality of American Slavery, but how Black Americans overcame American Slavery. It should be noted that even though Black Americans physically overcame slavery, they still suffer adverse effects from it.
With the theme of “We’ve Come Too Far To Turn Back Now”, Congressman Al Green was able to bring together “prominent clergy, public officials” which included Houston City Mayor John Whitmire, Houston City Council Members, Precinct Chairs, as well as various Civic Organizations throughout the City of Houston. With the highly controversial redistricting that took place in Texas, specifically within the city of Houston; many attendees had a lot to say about that. Feelings of resentment, frustration, and outright anger topped the list when it came to attendees expressing themselves during the breakfast meeting.
Veda Correspondent Meochea “Me-Me” Money was on scene to capture the latest reactions and interviews from the attendees from this event. Take a listen.
