[Chad issues reciprocal travel ban on America] The African country of Chad keeping in step with American President Donald Trump has reciprocated a travel ban on all American visa holders in its country. President Mahamat Deby of Chad issued a statement on social media giant Facebook stating:
“Chad has neither planes nor billions of dollars to give, but Chad has its dignity and its pride.”
The American President has issued travel bans on roughly 12 countries and is considering adding additional countries to his administration's travel ban list. The reasons cited by President Trump for the travel ban on this potentially growing list of banned countries were because of their links to terrorism, citizens that tend to overstay the duration of their visa, and their perceived lack of ability to put security measures in place. President Trump's travel ban does make room for travel exemptions for foreign travelers to attend sporting events, diplomate, dual nationals, family visa and athletes.
One of the biggest concerns that are arriving from the Trump Administration's travel ban is the possibility that other countries may follow in the footsteps of Chad and decide to ban the visa of American citizens as well. Currently, the European Union has issued a silent ban on aerial travel to America as highlighted in a previous article entitled: “EUROPEAN AIRLINES CANCEL SUMMER U.S. FLIGHTS IN PROTEST”. Chad's reciprocal travel ban on American visas started earlier last week and appears to have no end date in sight. The Trump Administration issued a public statement addressing the overstaying of Chadian citizens overstaying their visa by stating:
“Chad had a B-1/B-2 visa overstay rate of 49.54 percent and a F,M, and J visa overstay rate of 55.64 percent. According to the Fiscal Year 2022 Overstay Report, Chad had a B-1/B-2 visa overstay rate of 37.12 percent. The high visa overstay rate for 2022 and 2023 is unacceptable and indicates a blatant disregard for United states immigration laws.”
Just how far reaching will the future implications of both nations engaging in reciprocal visa suspensions be is currently unknown. However, it is highly suspected that other countries may follow in the footsteps of Chad.
