[Christian Menefee breakfast Al Green] Over the weekend, newly elected Congressman Christian Menefee (D) held a swearing in breakfast at the University of Houston. Hundreds of supporters attended to show their support for the young Congressmen who defeated his opponent and veteran of just over 20 years in office, former 9^th District Congressman Al Green who is also a Democrat. Al Green's 9^th District was recently merged with the 18^th Congressional District after the highly controversial but not illegal redrawing of District lines within the State of Texas.

Various speakers took to the stage such as Houston City Councilwoman Tiffany Thomas, his parents, supporters, and his wife to not only congratulate Congressman Christian Menefee on his victory, but to offer words of encouragement and support as he starts his new journey in the House of Representatives for the Congressional 18^th District. It should be noted that two of his predecessors died while representing the 18^th Congressional District; those individuals were Shelia Jackson Lee and longtime Houston mayor Sylvester Turner, both who are tremendously missed by both supporters and detractors.
