[Greece Cyprus Israel Somaliland] With Israel being the first state to recognize Somaliland as an independent state separate from Somalia, the European Union appears to be following suit. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud upheld his position that Israel has violated international norms and that Somaliland remains a part of Somalia. The words of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud were backed by thousands of Somalis that took to the streets in protest of the unilateral actions of Israel which many are predicting to have adverse geopolitical consequences that will spawn a series of unpredictable responses on the world stage. Nigeria who has recently cooperated with the Americans on a highly questionable bombing campaign against ISIS in their country has also expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions of Israel.
Nigeria's Foreign Minister stated:
“Nigeria urges international actors to desist from recognizing any part of the territory of Somalia as an independent entity. Such actions would only escalate the crisis and should be avoided.”
The governments of Rwanda and Kenya as well as at least 20 other African Union and West Asian governments have also denounced the actions of Israel. When it comes to the European Union, it was stated the EU only supports the actions of Israel because it stands to gain in terms of trade and commerce from the controversial move. Israel has proposed to not only recognize Somaliland as an independent state, but to seek to establish a trade and commerce route that would extend from India all the way to Europe. The venture is known as the “India-Middle East-European-Corridor” or “IMEC”.
It was revealed by sources that Israel is seeking to use IMEC as cover to wage war on other Arab and Islamic countries such as Iran in the region. In addition, sources stated that IMEC will serve as an alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as well as an alternative to the Suez Canal which has been heavily bombarded by Ansarullah (Houthis) in protest of Israel’s genocide against the people of Palestine. It should be noted that the Houthis have declared Somaliland a legitimate target because of it’s association with Israel. IMEC is set to run through Gulf States which include the likes of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Israel, Jordan, and the Mediterranean Sea; as well as European countries such as Greece, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia.
Although the governments of Greece and Cyprus have recently signed on to be a part of IMEC, it should be noted that designated terrorist and extremist factions such as Ansarullah (Houthis), RSF (Sudan), Yemen’s STC (Southern Transition Commission), ISIS, ISIL, Hezbollah, Hamas, PKK, DHKP-C, Antifa-Ost, and various others may not only pose as detractors but a huge risk for the completion of IMEC.
