[Hamas disarming] Despite American backed Israeli bombing and millions of Palestinians being displaced, in conjunction with close to 80,000 Palestinians killed Hamas has maintained its stance on not disarming. This constitutes as a major blow to Israel as Israel has operated under the guise that “mowing the lawn” and mass punishment would defeat or at the least break Hamas. Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal stated: “Hamas will not disarm, give up its weapons, rule of the Gaza Strip, or permit external oversight in Gaza.” Khaled Mashaal also stated that the “resistance’s weapons is our people's right to defend itself. Resistance and its weapons are the honor and pride of the nation."

But instead of disarming, the leadership of Hamas has recently stated that they would be open to potentially “freezing or storing” their weapons to stay in compliance with its American brokered ceasefire deal with Israel. Backing that decision was Hamas member Bassem Naim who stated:

“We are open to have a comprehensive approach in order to avoid further escalations or in order to avoid any further clashes or explosions”.

But according to geopolitical analysts, this is not the only reason why Hamas is considering freezing or placing its weapons in storage. According to geopolitical analysts, the reason why Hamas is considered the idea is because Hamas as a political organization and most Palestinian people don’t trust Israel and America based on their experience. To date since the cease fire has taken effect on December 5, 2025,  Israel has not only killed 7 Palestinians, but they have carried out both bombing and multiple missile strikes on neighboring countries killing well over 13 and wounding 27 Lebanon citizens, and executed two unarmed Palestinians at point blank range which was caught on an on-lookers cell phone. Then there was the intentionally man-made hunger crisis that Israel manufactured in what many believe to be Israel’s way of “starving out” the people of Palestine. Then as a bonus there is the forced annexed lands of both Palestine and Lebanon by Israel.

At the moment, Hamas chief negotiator and Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya has stated:

“Our weapons are linked to the existence of the occupation and the aggression. If the occupation ends, these weapons will be placed under the authority of the state.”

While a loose ceasefire is in place, the world is left to watch and wonder if the ceasefire talks will hold.
