[HOUSTON DYNAMO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES] Last night's match up between the Houston Dynamo and the San Jose Earthquakes can be considered a match in which the Houston Dynamo struggled but successfully defended against San Jose winning the match. While the match ended up with neither team securing a goal, it was one that head coach Ben Olsen could easily describe as “frustrating” as he spoke with the Press during last night's post-match conference. Although last night's match was not the Houston Dynamos' finest hour, it was still a highly entertaining match to watch. So much so, that one fan decided to rush the pitch but was subdued by Shell Energy Stadium security.
Looking at the key stats, it further shows a statistical picture of how lackluster the Houston Dynamo performed last night. San Jose led in all notable key stats with them taking eight shots, with four of those shots landing on target. While the Houston Dynamo took a total of seven shots; and while they were making honest attempts to secure a goal, none of the shots the Dynamo took landed on target. The San Jose Earthquakes also led when it came to ball possession which stood at 52% as compared to the Houston dash possessing the ball 48% of the time.
San Jose was able to execute 518 passes with a pass accuracy rate of 90% while the Houston Dynamo was able to execute 351 passes with a pass accuracy rate of 85%. It should be noted that typically the Houston Dynamo tends to possess the ball more than the teams that play on average. Where the Houston Dynamo did unfortunately excel was in their ability to rack up eight fouls as they aggressively defended themselves from San Jose scoring off the pitch. While the Houston Dynamo picked up eight fouls, San Jose accumulated a total of nine fouls putting them in the lead in this category.
Despite the aggressive playing nature of the Houston Dynamo, they were able to avoid being issued any yellow or red cards while San Jose was issued one yellow card and no red cards. The Dynamo was called for being offsides one time while the San Jose reframed from acquiring any calls for being offsides. When it came to taking corners the Houston Dynamo excelled in these areas as they took a total of seven corners as the San Jose Earthquakes were able to take a total of four corners.
The next Houston Dynamo match will be September 5, as they face off against Charlotte FC with kick off scheduled to be at 6:30pm. The current win probability stands with Charlotte FC having a 42% chance of defeating the Houston Dynamo with a 26% chance of a draw. This leaves the Houston Dynamo with a 32% chance of defeating Charlotte FC.
