[City of Houston's homeless] with the City of Houston enforcing its ordinance gear toward evicting the homeless population of Houstonians from its Downtown area. It's been reported that nearly all of the people who fall into this category are upset over the enforcement of the city ordinance. Hundreds of homeless Houstonians have no idea what to do and many of them feel as if they are being pushed away from city resources that would aid them in easing the burden of being homeless and living on the streets of Downtown Houston. With thousands of homeless Houstonians being evicted from Downtown, they are left wondering where to go to receive services such as housing, food, healthcare, and mental health services.
We were able to catch up and speak with one homeless Houstonian and expressed anger, frustrations, and grief towards not only the City of Houston and its enforcements of it’s new ordinance, but how the City of Houston “quality of life” personnel treat him and other homeless individuals. With the homeless not being able to construct makeshift housing on the city’s walkways and its public parks; according to this homeless source, homeless people feel as if they are being shunned as citizens of Houston. We urge you to listen to insights from one of Houston's homeless as we traveled with him on the Houston metro train.
