[ISIS Syria CENTCOM] It was reported in a press release by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) that the U.S. military executed a strike named “Operation Hawkeye” on roughly 70 ISIS targets in Syria on Friday in response to an ISIS member launching an ambush the week prior which left two U.S. soldiers dead and several U.S. citizens and several Syrian security forces members severely wounded. In conjunction with CETCOM executing this mission, they were joined by the Jordanian Armed Forces which also supplied aircraft to support the mission. The 70 ISIS targets were considered known “ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites”.
Currently it is unknown the exact number of ISIS terrorists killed during execution of the targeted aerial bombing campaign led by the Americans, but at it was revealed that least 100 precision munitions were said to be deployed during the mission and since this month earlier attacked on December 13, the “U.S. and partner forces conducted 10 operations in Syria and Iraq resulting in the deaths of or detention of 23 terrorist operatives”. Adm. Brad Cooper, Commander of CENTCOM stated within the Press release:
“This operation is crucial to preventing ISIS from inspiring terrorist plots and attacks against the U.S. homeland. We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists who seek to harm Americans and our partners across the region.”
With over 80 operations executed within the last six months by the U.S, military and support forces, geopolitical analysts and American detractors are questioning the effectiveness of American led strikes against ISIS and other designated terrorist organizations.
