[Trump Greenland] With American President Donald Trump pushing to possibly annex the arctic island of Greenland by force, many European countries have responded by deploying various numbers of troops to the island. In retaliation for such moves by European countries, the Trump Administration has vowed to add an additional round of tariffs on all the European countries for not only deploying troops to Greenland; to apply economic pressure on European countries in hopes that they will “give Greenland up” to avoid having to endure economic hardship. The Trump Administration's latest retaliatory move is seen as “Economic Blackmail” from the perspective of affected European countries.

The new round of additional tariffs at the rate of 10% are set to take effect on February first on the following countries:  U.K., Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland. Adding insult to injury, the Trump Administration is seeking to apply yet another 25% levy on these targeted European countries by June 1st. The European sectors that are predicted to be hit hard are luxury goods, pharmaceuticals, energy, and the automotive sector. Currently, nearly all European countries have been subjected to a 15% tariff on exported goods, services, and products to America.

Germany, who has been in a self-inflicted recession since last year because of their unwillingness to purchase cheap Russian oil and gas due to the American applied sanctions on Russia is predicted to be hit the hardest of all targeted European countries.  It should be noted that stocks have already begun to slightly decrease because of the actions of the Trump Administration. The current sentiment in Greenland has spawned a new type of MAGA supporter. Instead of “make America great again”, the new Greenland MAGA base stands under the united front of “Make America Go Away”. This is followed by the overwhelming consensus that “Greenland is not for sale”.

French President Emmanuel Macron has recently stated via text to president trump that, “I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland”.  President Trump posted a screenshot of President Emmanuel Macron’s message on his social media platform “Truth Social”. Although Greenland is a self-governing country, it still has a very strong connection to Denmark.

OUR POSITION AT VEDA WORLD NEWS

The actions of the Trump Administration will undoubtedly lead to America further isolating itself from the rest of the world. The reason why they are taking this position is because due to the world being a multi-polar world, the application of sanctions on one country only works if the targeted country agrees to allow themselves to be affected by it. In the case of U.K., Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland, the sanctions or the threat of sanctions will/should only prompt them to recalibrate not only their relationship with America, but how it does business with America.

In short, it’s not improbable that the European countries affected by the weaponization of tariffs by president trump may seek to diversify their commercial dealing by increasing their pivot to China and other developing nations. Providing credence to our position is because of Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent pivot to China by the signing of multiple trade deals and agreements.
