[NATO SUMMIT TRUMP ANKARA TURKIYE] President Trump is heading with 32 other world leaders to a two-day NATO summit which begins today in Ankara, Türkiye to address matters surrounding issues pertaining to the Ukraine-Russia war, military defense capacity, general spending intelligence, as well as defense spending. Other key issues and topics that will be discussed will be the Israel and its war of genocide against the people of Palestine, the American military withdrawal from Germany and how Germany plans to navigate that. It is also expected that President Trump will voice his position on how some NATO members are failing to pull their weight within the NATO alliance.
The highly controversial subject of America's potential to purchase or outright attempt to annex Greenland is also on the docket for review. Another big topic that will be discussed will be the joint American-Israeli war of choice and aggression towards Iran and how that war is adversely affecting all members of NATO. International and commercial shipping in terms of goods, products, oil and gas specifically within the strait of Hormuz are also set to be discussed during this NATO summit as well. While America has its agenda of items of interest to be pushed, the Europeans are also seeking to push their interests as well. For the Europeans, the issue of growing Russian influence and their fears of Russia engaging in a full-scale war with them will be addressed.
NATO related provisions for the 2026 national defense authorization act will be touched on as America is seeking to expand its “congressional oversight” in Europe, the Baltic, and Ukraine. When it comes to Ukraine possibly having the opportunity to join NATO, the results are not clear. While the talk is somewhat in the air, geopolitical analysts are predicting that nothing will come of it and that even if Ukraine were to somehow become a member of NATO in the future, it would not only result in dire consequences for Ukraine at the behest of Russia, but it may permanently have an adverse effect on NATO as a global institution. Other countries in NATO such as Poland are seeking to find ways to grant Ukraine NATO members and under the pretext that if NATO fails to grant Ukraine NATO membership in which it would benefit from article five protection, Russia would only become more emboldened to continue executing it’s offensive towards Ukraine.
This NATO summit will most likely be one of the most complex meetings to date as the world continues to shift away from a unilateral world to a more muli-polarized world.
