CANADA TO REDUCES DEPENDANCE ON AMERICAN WEAPONS DUE TO TARIFF WAR | PHOTOGRAPHER UNKNOWN

[CANADA AMERICAN WEAPONS TARIFF WAR] With neither the Trump Administration nor the Canadian government backing down when it comes to the application of tit-for-tat tariffs, it appears that the Americans have something else to worry about beyond Canada not only refusing to import any American goods, but also when it comes to Canada purchasing any American military weapon systems. It’s a well-known fact that the Americans are the number one arms sellers in the world and have what's known as a military industrial complex that tends to fuel the country. In an effort to reduce gaps in their military readiness and defense apparatus, Canada has made it a point to pivot to countries such as Asia and Europe to fulfill many of its military weapon procurement needs.

Supporting the position of Canada pivoting to the east for military weapon procurement, Canadian secretary of state for the Defense Investment Agency stated to Press that "We are in a situation that we didn't provoke, we're in a position that we don't deserve" Fuhr said. "We're on the receiving end of this change, and it's our job to look for new opportunities and pivot as fast as we can to meet the moment and never put ourselves back in this position again." He followed that statement by explaining that the Canadian government has learned its lesson when it comes to "putting all our eggs in one basket” and ensuring that Canada be self-sufficient when it comes to the production of military hardware.

While there was no specific mention of Canada's placing retaliatory tariffs on the American military, it was reported that Canadian officials within the Defense Investment Agency assessed that the “Canadian public would have no appetite for sole-source military contracts to American firms.” Prior to the start of the tariff war between Canada and the Americans, there were military based orders that were either planned or paid for. Orders that include 16 Lockheed-Martins F-35, which are known to be more of a financial headache than anything in some aerial war-fighter segments have been Canada's procurement list.

Although it isn’t clear if the purchases of 16 American F-35’s will continue to go as planned, Canada’s pivot to the east include procurements such as the Global Eye radar aircraft and Gripen Fighter Jets made by Swedish entity Sabb. Even Elon Musk Starlink appears to be on the chopping block as well with Canada shifting away from Starlink in favor of awarding a $2.3 billion contract to Telesat for arctic military satellite communications.

While it's understood Canada cannot completely cut off the purchase of American weapon systems, it appears that they can significantly wean themselves off of depending on the Americans for their military and defense needs as other major world powers such as China seem to be aiding in the forming of a collective that will allow them to possibly by-pass having to engaging the Americans in this sense in the near future at all.

Due to the actions of the Trump Administration towards Canada combined with the weaponization of tariffs, it serves as yet another justifiable cog in the wheel when it comes to countries seeking to not only diversify their portfolios in various sectors in a combined effort to shield themselves from American hegemony, but there's simply no going back to the unipolar world. Canada has now accelerated the world further into the multi-polar age.
