[June 2026 Consumer Price Index] According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the June 2026 Consumer Price Index “for All Urban Consumers fell 0.4 percent, seasonally adjusted, and rose 3.5 percent over the last 12 months, not seasonally adjusted. The index for all items less food and energy was unchanged in June; up 2.6 percent over the year”. On the surface of June's Consumer Price Index “All Items” stood at 3.5%, the category of “Food” clocked in at 3.0%, “Energy” was the biggest winner last month standing strong at 15.7%, while “All Items Less Food and Energy” came in at 2.6%. In contrast, the Producer Price Index “The Producer Price Index for final demand fell 0.3 percent in June. Prices for final demand goods decreased 1.4 percent, and the index for final demand services moved up 0.2 percent. Prices for final demand increased 5.5 percent for the 12 months ended in June.”
Focusing on Consumer Price Index and drilling down into the “Food” category, the trend of Americans eating away from homes continues to lead with June's “Food Away from Home” up 3.4%. Within this category “Full-Service Meals and Snacks” showed the most growth at 3.7%, with “Limited-Service Meals and Snacks” falling slightly behind at 3.1%. in the "Food At Home” category which stood at 2.7%, the biggest winner that showed the most growth was “Fruits and Vegetables” (5.3%). In second place was “Nonalcoholic Beverages and Beverage Materials” which showed 2.9% in terms of growth. Coming in third was “Meats, Poultry, Fish, And Eggs” which grew to 2.6% last month. Two categories tied last; "Cereals and Bakery Products” and “Other Food At Home” both of which stood equal at 2.4%.
While energy showed the biggest growth, when drilled down, the clear winner would be "Energy Commodities” which demonstrated the ability to grow to a whopping 27.1%. However, the opposite was true when compared to “Energy Services” which fell flat in comparison to a meager 3.9%. looking at “Energy Commodities”, “Fuel Oil” was up 42.9% and “Gasoline (All Types)” stood at nearly half that to the tune of 26.7%. observing the “Energy Services” sector. Both “Electricity” and “Natural Gas (Piped)” stayed roughly consistent between each other at 4.0% and 3.0% respectively.
The subsections in the “All Items Less Food and Energy” category showed mostly polarized results. “Services Less Energy Service” overtook “Commodities Less Food and Energy” with growth up 3.2% and 0.8% respectively. Looking at “Less Food and Energy Commodities", the only three winners were "Tobacco and Smoking Products”, “Apparel”, and "Alcoholic Beverages” which seemed to struggle to demonstrate growth at 6.5%, 3.9%, and 2.0% respectively. The month- long trend of “New Vehicles” falling flat stayed true to course with June's growth standing at 0.5%. “Used Cars and Trucks” fell into the negative to the tune of -1.8%. The only category that did worst was “Medical Care Commodities" which sharply fell to -2.1%.
